Elysium Novel 7 – Afterword

Elysium is the result of a P&P roleplaying game that was played in nine chapters from 2017 to 2020. This novel version of parts 1 to 7 contains the first five of these chapters.
Elysium is one of those weird ideas that sometimes cross your mind. Wouldn’t it be exciting to write a new setting for a game, but it should be more like a TV series. Not classic fantasy, but more sci-fi, cyberpunk, thriller, action, emotion… in the style of the 80s, as uncompromising, unpretentious and unironic as possible. Back then, when the entertainment industry still had the courage to experiment, when not every movie followed the same formula. A story with a comprehensible world, set so far in the future that it comes full circle and emerges in the past.
Elysium was planned as a one-shot adventure (corresponding to the first novel, “Hopes”). It became much more than that. The story continued and the world became richer and deeper. At some point, the question arises: would this game also work as a readable story? Perhaps as a dime novel, as the light entertainment it was always intended to be?
It’s up to you, dear reader, to decide. 🙂
The work on the seven novels lasted from 2021 to 2022 for the German version and until early 2024 for the English translation. All this effort shows that we stand behind the project and that it was a lot of fun for us. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the proofreaders once again.
One benchmark was important for the project: how many readers would we be able to reach, how many would support us with their comments and feedback to keep Elysium alive? After fourteen months of weekly releases, the decision was made to stop the novels. The seventh installment is written to wrap up the story and not end on a cliffhanger. Nobody likes series that are suddenly canceled and end on a cliffhanger 😉
